2804 Highway 21
East Bastrop, Texas 78602
$$
On that road trip from Houston to Austin? Need a place to grab a quick and delicious bite? I stumbled upon a place right by the highway that has since actually become an en route destination. The Roadhouse in Bastrop will not disappoint. I’m not usually a person who would give a four or five star rating to a place many would consider a “greasy hole in the wall” but this place has totally earned it. There’s a reason they’ve been named the Best Burger in the county for almost two full decades.
Roadhouse Menu
With an authentic “Roadhouse” and old school Texas feel with a classic all American menu of mostly burgers (including one that was named Top 50 in the state by Texas Monthly), shakes and fries that most of us want they also offer a lot more. Both the Ribeye (cooked to order) and the Grilled Pork Chop are delicious. For the growing number of vegans around (looking at you California and Austin) they also have several options with you in mind. While admittedly, I haven’t tried them, the reviews online for both the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich and Black Bean Burger have people raving about them.
As a creature of habit, my personal standing order has become the Jalapeno Cream Cheese Burger (the aforementioned Top 50 in Texas) and a strawberry milkshake. Juicy, delicious, and enough nostalgia to conjure up childhood memories of Texas road tripping with my grandparents.
Setting
Located literally across the street from the main entrance to Bastrop State Park only 40 minutes East from Downtown Austin or 20 minutes from the world-class Circuit Of The Americas, the Roadhouse actually makes for a great destination for a Saturday or Sunday drive for anyone in the Central Texas region. Don’t worry, the AC is always cold in the summer heat.
