My favorite watchmaker as a child and my favorite watchmaker as an adult just announced a collaboration and it’s one I couldn’t be more excited about. Swatch and Omega are joining forces to produce Omega x Swatch Speedmaster Moonwatch.

Yes, the title is a mouthful to say, but in my opinion it’s a really cool watch. It’s also an affordable (by over $5000) way to start a watch collection. This one will retail for only $260. The downside is that it will only be available through select official Swatch stores. Thankfully, I spend a lot of time in Houston, home of NASA. May the odds be ever in my favor.

11 Timepieces
There are 11 pieces, all named after planets and each with their own unique color scheme. The material for all of the pieces is bioceramic, which is patented by Swatch. This is an important differentiation for Omega, as it’s a forward-looking new material and demonstrates something new. All models have supernova for the indexes and hands, but also feature a velcro strap. This lume is exactly the same type of Super-LumiNova used for Omega Speedmasters, which glow green in the dark.

None of the pieces are limited edition or numbered. True to the original Omega Speedmasters, the diameter of the watch is 42mm, and the thickness is 13mm. The MoonSwatch shares the same glass. The readability of the chronograph display is also extremely Speedmaster Like, which is all the more impressive because all watches are being manufactured from the Swatch factories. On each caseback sits an image of the respective planet each is. These images have been directly supplied and issued from NASA.

Moonswatch Colors
Uranus is pale blue, Pluto is gray with a burgundy bezel (a nice nod to the Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo 11), Venus is powdery pink and comes in 38mm with oval subdials while Earth is blue and green. Mars is red and it also boasts the Alaska Project hands (another nice nod to past Speedmasters).

For Saturn, the watch is beige/dark brown with rings circling the chronometer at the 6 o’clock position. Neptune is deep blue, Jupiter is bronze/beige with orange hands and Mercury has the two tones dial in black. That leaves the Sun, which is yellow and was the starting point of this project. Last but certainly not least, the Moon is also black and is the most similar to the original Speedmaster.
