Ferrari Purosangue | The Royal Texan

Finally!! Last week Ferrari finally released an SUV to the market. I say ‘finally’ because it wasn’t that long ago when the prancing horse head honcho, Sergio Marchionne said “you’d have to shoot him first”.

That was then and this is now. Benedetto Vigna, the new CEO (no, Sergio wasn’t shot) has other plans.

Midsize SUV Crossover
Introducing the (hopefully) sales boosting Purosangue. Purosangue, which allegedly means thoroughbred in Italian, is a 4-door, 4-seat midsize SUV crossover. In true Maranello fashion though they’d prefer that we call it a “modern GT”. Okay we’ll acquiesce. If we do that though it better bring some impressive numbers to the banqueting table.

By the look of the stats 5it looks like they are. Let’s start under the hood. With a 6.5 liter V-12 engine producing 715 horsepower and 528 lb-ft of torque being delivered through an eight-speed dual clutch transmission with 4WD this isn’t a prancing horse- it’s a stallion in a full on gallop. That gallop will take you to 193 mph and see 0-62 in only 3.3 seconds!

As for styling? Yes, I see a resemblance to many vehicles including (gasp!) the Ford Mustang Mach E-GT. I also see hints of the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso if that makes you feel better.

Once you get past the rear suicide doors what first comes to mind is symmetric alcantara bliss. The next thing you notice are a pair of company first dual electronic dashboards. A great blending of traditional Ferrari and the inevitable electronic future. Yes, it has driver modes. Five of them to be exact. Wet, Sport, Race, ESC-Off, and Comfort. Also yes is that it comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and wireless charging.

It doesn’t come with a towing package though so this means I still need something to pull the jet ski down to the marina.

“With a “loyal Ferrari client” release date of 2023 and a price tag around $400k, we’ll see if it has what it takes to take the crown in a heavily competed segment.
