Father’s Day is just around the corner. Knowing that most people took Mom out for lunch and are expecting Dad to fire up the grill, the least we can do is get them a gift they’ll actually like.
Below are a few ideas that he’ll genuinely appreciate without you having to bust the bank. Full disclosure, I’m neither endorsed nor paid by any of these companies. Just things I already own that I’d appreciate as a gift.
iPhone Leather Wallet with Magsafe
Sleek, minimalist, and stylish a leather wallet from Apple is an excellent gift idea. Available in 6 colors (Umber, Forest Green,Ink, Dark Cherry, Midnight & Orange) the magnetic wallet attaches to the back of your iphone features an embedded RFID chip that supports Find My and holds up to 3 cards. All one really needs to carry anyway. When you remove the wallet from the back of your phone you get a discreet notice on your phone with the location given. Like all Apple devices it works right out of the box. Simply hold next to your phone and the two will sync automatically.
The wallet is available directly from Apple for $59 but you can usually find it on Amazon for half of that price.
Moore Maker Pocket Knife
Another hard to beat option is a good high quality pocket knife. We want the same kind our Dad and our Grandads carry. The kind we grew up with. I promise we have great memories of them. My favorite pocket knife is an old knife that was in my grandfather’s pocket since at least the mid 70’s. It’s been used and it’s seen better days to be sure but no you can’t have it! To me it’s priceless. You can however get one similar to it. My favorite place to buy pocket knives for people (or for myself) is Moore Maker.
Moore Maker has been around since 1985 and their knives are used extensively on neighboring ranches like the Four Sixes (6666). The best knife as a daily pocketknife is by far the 3 blade
Stockman in lengths from 3 ½ – 4 inches. Many styles and colors of handle are available so finding a color for Dad won’t be hard at all. If you want to carry the same knife as several Presidents, ranchers, and George Strait then this is the knife for you.
YETI 20oz Tumbler
While they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I say “accept no substitute”. That certainly holds true with this mug. If there aren’t already several of these in your cupboard there should be. Dishwasher safe and double wall vacuum insulated, these are the perfect sized cups for whatever you might be drinking, from piping hot coffee to ice cold Dr Pepper. While available in ten colors at retail stores all over, if you order through the Yeti website they offer personalization and engraving whether it’s one of their designs or yours.
Helly Hansen Newport Swim Trunks
Comfortable, stylish and made of 100% recycled material these shorts are designed to perform whether you’re at the pool, on the beach, or sailing the Atlantic.
These trunks are made of a lightweight, quick-drying fabric and they feature an internal drawstring to insure a snug, perfect fit making them ideal for the on-water and on-land marine lifestyle. So, the next time Dad is packing for the beach or a sailing trip, make sure these are in his suitcase!
Priced at $60 you can order directly from Helly Hansen.
JLab Air POP
The JLab Go Air Pop are the perfect earbuds for people who want to have a backup set for the office, car, or gym bag, but don’t want to spend big to do it.
The Air Pop costs just $25 bucks, and for that they promise to deliver pretty good sound with EQ support to better suit audio, onboard controls, and generous battery life from their small-bud form factor.
The Go Air Pop certainly isn’t going to win any awards for stylish design. However, for a set of buds that sit snug and light in the ears and offer additional tips to improve fit, they tick the key boxes.
You can pick them up in five different shades for those who like a pop of color. I chose black because to me they don’t draw attention like my Apple AirPods do.
The Go Air Pop aren’t the smallest set of buds to drop into your ears; but, thankfully, neither do they protrude horribly. In the box you’ll also find a choice of small, medium and large gel tips included to help you achieve the optimal fit. The medium set is perfect for me.
I’ve used these buds throughout the day, in 3-4 hour stints, and they haven’t caused discomfort at any point. They don’t press or sit uncomfortably in the ear – while cheap, they certainly don’t feel like it.
They also held up well during exercise. The Go Air Pop comes with an IPX4 sweat- and water-resistant rating, which means they’ll be fine to withstand a few splashes of water. I’ve hiked, walked, and worked out with them, and they haven’t annoyingly slipped out on me.
They’re the touch-enabled kind, allowing you to do such things as turn the volume up and down, play and pause audio, skip tracks, summon your smart assistant, answer calls and flick through the EQ modes.
The instant fear of placing a pair of $25 earbuds into your ears is that they’re going to sound a terrible, tinny mess. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case with the Go Air Pop. In fact, I was actually pleasantly surprised by
Zip Ties
If after all that you still want to get Dad a tie. Grab some zip ties. They’re available everywhere and they are always handy. We can never have enough zip ties.
I’ve even heard it said that in a pinch, they work well for pony tails!
Happy Father’s Day!
